The Story Behind Europe's Truck Driver Marketplace

Germany alone has over 80,000 unfilled truck driver positions as of 2025, according to the IRU. Poland reports 40,000+. Across the EU, the gap between available drivers and open positions keeps widening every year.

The transport industry knows this. But the way companies hire drivers has not kept up.

Here is what hiring looks like for most transport companies today: post a job on a generic board, wait, get applications from the wrong country or with the wrong license type, pay a recruitment agency EUR 2,000 to EUR 5,000 per placement, and hope the driver stays. That process takes 4 to 8 weeks on average. For a single hire.

Drivers face their own problems. Skilled professionals in Poland, Romania, and the Czech Republic want to work in Germany, the Netherlands, or Belgium, where wages are 2x to 3x higher. But they can't find those opportunities without going through an agency that takes a cut of their first months of pay.

We built Fyndaro to fix both sides of this problem.

The European road freight market moves over EUR 400 billion in goods each year. Trucks carry 75% of all freight on the continent. Without drivers, supply chains stop.

And the shortage is projected to grow. The IRU's 2024 Driver Shortage Report estimates that Europe will be short 745,000 truck drivers by 2028 if current trends continue. An aging workforce, fewer young people entering the profession, and rising demand from e-commerce all push the gap wider.

Cross-border hiring is the obvious solution. Eastern Europe has trained drivers. Western Europe has open jobs. But the process of connecting them has been stuck in the past, built on agencies, job boards that don't cross borders, and word of mouth.
